Nikos Tsachiridis

Biography

Nikos Tsachiridis (September 9, 1933 – August 3, 2015) was a Greek actor. He was described as the "tough guy" of Greek cinema. A child of Pontic uprootedness and fatherless, he emerged from a very young age in the harsh struggle of life. He played in many films of both black-and-white and color Greek cinema. His first appearance was in the film Magic City (1954) by Nikos Koundouros, where the director gave him a small role. His roles in most films were secondary, usually those of the "tough guy". Nikos Tsachiridis always played his role convincingly, which is why he prevailed as one of the "tough guys" of Greek cinema. He was a footballer and a member of the Panhellenic Association of Paid Footballers (PSAP), while in addition to being an excellent actor he was also one of the best stuntmen in cinema. He lived in his detached house in Melissia. In recent years he suffered from Alzheimer's disease. He was buried in the Melissia Cemetery.

Arpa Colla

Arpa Colla

"Arpa-colla" in Greek literally means "Grab and stick", a phrase used to show something that has been done quickly and therefore isn't good enough. This is what the 2 main heroes of the film are doing. The one is a director(Giorgos) and the other an author(Kostas) with communistic ideas, who has won a prize at a festival. They both want to make a movie for the cinema. But every idea they have never comes true, because every time they meet someone to whom they tell their idea, they change their mind, and they want to make a totally different movie, ideas varying from political cinema to Greek historical dramas and modern films with motorcycle gangs. Not a bad attempt for the Greek cinema of the early 80's, which starts to wake up from the hibernation of the 70's.

The hero is willing to give everything and suffer whatever it takes in order to conquer the football world. With his talent as his only weapon, he tries to define his destiny, on a route from Thessaloniki, to Volos and from there to Athens. With him, we taste the mud of the fields, the loneliness of the countryside, the "sold out" matches, but also the ephemeral glow of success. Pantelis Voulgaris signs a film that left an era, as, in addition to its original directorial perspective, it outlines the phenomenon of Greek football in a poetic and at the same time realistic way.
