The First Days

A unique drama anthology series for our time, inspired by true events which happened in Kyiv in the first few weeks after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. As the brutal war got underway, every second person left Kyiv. Yet every second person remained. These are their stories – variously moving, funny, sad, stark, unsettling, and uplifting.

Chasing Two Hares. The 90s

Kyiv, 1997. Small-time crook Slava Khvostov falls in major debt with Ivan Ivanovych, a mob bos with political ties. Struggling to find any semblence of a well-payed job, he decides to marry the wealthy, albeit unattractive Ilona Sirkova. However, there's a slight problem hindering his future nuptials. A few days prior to this anouncement, he had already promised that he was going to pursue a beautiful girl named Halya.

Trial Period

Polina is a glamorous businessman’s daughter accustomed to a carefree life. After her father’s betrayal, she ends up on probation at an advertising agency. There, over the course of a month, she competes for a position with Roman — an ambitious and principled colleague who sees the world very differently. Their professional rivalry gradually transforms into conflicts, unexpected closeness, and situations where it becomes difficult to separate work tasks from personal feelings.

Lessons of Tolerance

A Ukrainian LGBTQ+ acceptance group is formed by teacher Nadia. A stereotypically homophobic family hesitantly decides to sign up to receive tempting financial supplements. They will need to spend 24 hours with group members Vasyl, beer fan Zenyk, actress Diana and aggressive Denys. Through amusing games, they will learn about homophobia, equality, empathy, gender discrimination, and self-fulfillment. They play games promoting equality and empathy, using humor against prejudice.
