The Countryside

A group of urbanites flee the city for different reasons: existential, economic crisis, need for fresh air, search for peace, inspiration to compose ... The intention of these strangers is to settle in an abandoned town and start their lives from scratch, but when they arrive they discover that there are still some neighbors: rural people with a very different way of seeing life.

The protagonist is Blanca, a 37-year-old biologist who, while searching for personal and professional meaning, joins a small clinic in Barcelona as an embryologist. There, she faces difficult decisions, a diverse range of patients, and a system that often prioritizes efficiency over empathy. Héctor—her colleague in the laboratory—represents the other side of the process: a brilliant yet intensely rational professional, whose cold, clinical approach clashes with Blanca’s emotional involvement. The contrast between them gives rise to professional tensions and conflicting perspectives that call their own certainties into question.
