The show follows Crime Scene Investigators working for the Miami-Dade Police Department as they use physical evidence, similar to their Las Vegas counterparts, to solve grisly murders. The series mixes deduction, gritty subject matter, and character-driven drama in the same vein as the original series in the CSI franchise, except that the Miami CSIs are cops first, scientists second.

It is an adaptation of the Argentine children's telenovela El árbol azul (1991–1992), created by Mario L. Mortheo and adapted for Mexican television by Alejandro Orive and Carlos Daniel González. The story follows Luciana, a young girl who loses her mother at an early age and longs to have a loving family again. After meeting child psychologist Marcela, she becomes determined to bring her and her widowed father, Rodrigo, together.
