Malla Malmivaara

Biography

Malla Malmivaara (born Laura Malmivaara on 10 December 1982 in Jyväskylä) is a Finnish actress and singer. She adopted the first name Malla to avoid confusion with her second cousin, who is also an actress and singer. Graduating with a Master's degree from the Theatre Academy of Helsinki in 2017, she pursues an artistic career spanning film, television, and music. On the big screen, she drew attention in the drama Star Boys (Kaiken se kestää, 2017), a performance that earned her a Jussi Award nomination, and went on to appear in films such as Little Siberia (Pikku-Siperia, 2025). On television, she is best known for her roles in the crime and drama series Black Widows (Mustat lesket, 2014–2016) and Deadwind (Karppi, 2020). Forgiven

Forgiven

Forgiven is a realistic miniseries with dense atmosphere, based on Laura Manninen's novel. 30-something strong-willed Vilma falls in love with Mikko, who is perfect in many ways: a charming, polite, sensitive and sympathetically capricious man. Gradually, Vilma, who has never dreamed of children, realizes that she and Mikko have somehow become a blended family with hustle and bustle and three children. There's a dog, apple trees and beautifully aged house. Little by little, Mikko's true personality is revealed and the seemingly perfect idyll collapses. The abnormal becomes completely normal. Love, shame, fear and need to solve the problems keep Vilma in abusive relationship until the situation escalates to the poins where it's all about surviving and staying alive. The drama series Forgiven deals with love, domestic violence, shame and the culture of silence. Forgiven is a tragic love story, but also a story of survival.

Hustlers

Hustlers

The director Lauri Nurkse tells that Veijarit is a film about "arjensietokyvyttömyys" (= inability to tolerate everyday life) and about the Peter Pan complex. The main actor Mikko Leppilampi says it's about "kolkyttoistavuotiaat" (= thirtyeenagers = people of thirty behaving like teenagers). An immediate reference point is the commedia all'italiana of the 1950s and the 1960s, the black comedy often exposing the infantile stage of development of the Italian male. Saku and Ässä are anti-heroes, but we never fail to sense the humanity behind their shallow and crazy ways. Veijarit is a satire and a parody of a superficial way of life, but there is a vitality in the protagonists that we feel can lead them to a more meaningful stage of existence after the prolonged youth full of sound and fury. There is a motif of transcendence in the imagery of flying: will the balloons carry me or will they burst.
